H.M.S'Espiegle", at Devonport.
10th October,1891.
466
This is to certify that George Mitchell has served in this ship
as second Sick Berth Steward from 23rd August 1887 to date, and has alway given the greatest satisfaction.
He is thoroughly trustworthy, sober, honest, and a most efficient dis-
penser. He is also very well up in throutine duties of the Sick Bay as
regards taking charge of stores, etc.
During my three months absence on board H.M.S.Hyacinth in 1888 he
carried out all the medical duties of the ship to the satisfaction of
the captain, and, in fact, of everyone.
During the Chilian revolution in 1891 he was of great assistance to
me ashore attending the wounded and was especially picked out by one of
the Chilian Civil Authorities of Iquique, Dr. Neill, as a most efficient ba
bandager, and as an assistant during critical operations.
I consider that his advancement to Sick Berth Steward should have
taken place long since, and I shall always be glad to be of any we I
can to him.
Signed,
D.Browning Bodkey,
Staff Surgeon.
